Funds sought for summer internshipWe are soliciting funds for the San Jose Mercury News/Friends of The Daily summer internship, now in its third year. Date: January 23, 2005 Of all the summer awards offered by the Friends, this is the most special because a paid internship comes with the award. This is a professional internship where the intern has the same duties as other Mercury News journalists.
Last year’s recipient (and new Daily editor-in-chief) Cynthia Cho said her internship was an invaluable learning experience. Dividing her summer between the news and entertainment departments, she wrote two articles a week and felt like a “real” reporter. Plus, she attended workshops and speaker events. The Mercury News staff was supportive in answering her questions and offering advice.
