President's Message

Welcome to the Web site of the Friends of The Stanford Daily!

This is a great opportunity to build on the more than 25 years of bringing Daily staff together. We have had a number of reunion dinners over the years where we have shared stories of the old Daily shack, the turbulent 70’s and much more.

We all now must move into the next century and use this Web site to involve more of us and bring us into closer contact with current Daily staff. The Stanford Daily has evolved over the past 70 years into a significant supplier of journalistic talent to major publications. You can help carry on that tradition and enhance it.

The Friends has been a labor of love of a few people that is now ready to take the next step. and have put in countless hours to build this site. and have contributed so much over the years to bring us together and help keep us together.

With this site, we can economically send you updates on The Daily and the Friends’ progress.

If you are interested in helping current Daily staff network for jobs, teach writing classes or speak at a staff lunch, please contact the editor, Camille J. Ricketts, at . If you are interested in the scholarship program, contact me directly at . The scholarship program is a tremendous source of pride for the Friends. We have five scholarships, totaling $10,500 annually to assist Daily staff with summer internships. Please see the Scholarship page to see what opportunities generous Friends are providing Daily staff.

Until now, the Friends’ Board of Directors has recruited replacement members for the outside Director positions. If we get enough involvement from other Friends through this Web site and improve the contact list, it may be possible to have at-large nominations and elections. We will evaluate this possibility over the coming months.

But most importantly, keep in touch. Update your information, and let us know about people not in the database whom you can help us track down. About 150 people attend our Big Game reunions, and I am always struck with the thought that several hundred more missed a wonderful time. I hope that this Web site will serve as a vehicle to help you experience what we have been for the past 25 years and serve as a focal point for our next 25 years of progress supporting The Daily.
